Hidden Sin: How to Reveal and Heal from Past Mistakes
Have you ever done something that was against your beliefs, purity, yourself? Something that made you cringe inside every time you thought about it? Are you still holding onto that one or many mistakes and feel imprisoned by it? There are times in our life where we become so ashamed of our sin that we hide our face from the One who can set us free.
Sin becomes like an infectious disease. It might start out small and you may have no symptoms but through time your body starts to feel the effects, permeates throughout every crevice, and you slowly start to feel like you are dying. Regardless of how suffocating it may be, I am here to tell you there is hope! Starting today you can make steps that can help you reveal and heal from past mistakes. Here are some tips to help you start to feel alive again:
Tip #1: Say it– Speak about it! By speaking about it to God, trusted friend or family member, your Pastor, even a public speaker (I’ve had many people open up to me after a seminar…some I didn’t even know), it begins to lose power because you have made your first step out of isolation.
Tip #2: Ask for forgiveness– First to God and then to yourself. Sometimes the hardest person to forgive is you. It’s hard looking in the mirror when you don’t like what you see. When you do ask for forgiveness, write down that date. This way when the enemy tries to steal your joy and remind you of your mistakes you can say, “God forgave me and I forgave myself on ______”.
Tip #3: Call for backup– You know the saying, “United we stand, divided we fall”, there is no better way to describe how the enemy works. He wants to isolate you and make you feel like you are the ONLY one who has ever done this [NAME MISTAKE]. Call your friends, call your family, call the Police (don’t actually call the police…unless they are family or it’s an emergency…loll), call whoever you need.
Tip#4: Set goals– Write them down. Whether they are long-term or short, giving yourself goals allows you to see the changes already made, keeps you focus, and shows you the light at the end of the tunnel.
Tip#5: Move on– You have been set free. God gave you a gift of forgiveness. How would you feel if you gave someone something really special and they gave it back to you? He loves you and he wants you free. Now it’s time to move out of the past and into his future for you.
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
“…Come out, and to those in darkness, ‘Be free!’ “They will feed beside the roads and find pasture on every barren hill” (Isa. 49:9).
Baskets of Blessings!
Jesus, family, ministry, and lots of coffee! My heart comes from being a young teen girl who didn’t know much and found Jesus in a dark time. My ministry focuses on the heart of God for this generation to make Godly decisions especially in the area of purity. A blog for all ages because God’s Word is eternal and has no age limit!
