Meaning of Your Name

I remember asking someone when I was about 8 years old what my name meant. Their answer was, “Nina? Nothing!” This memory has stayed with me for a long time mostly because I was looking for affirmation. I was looking for someone to give my life meaning and to know I was loved. This is why I encourage you to take some time and look up the meaning of your name. I think this is a great beauty in who you are as an individual. Names in the bible were really significant and telling about that individual’s character. For instance, the name Jesus literally means “Messiah and Savior” (http://www.bible-codes.org/Names-Bible-Prophecy-Code.htm).

Here are some tips:

1)   Search different sites. Here are a couple: http://www.thinkbabynames.com/ http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/quick-search.html?navid=BNW_rightRail

2)   Find POSITIVE definitions.

3)   If your name is spelled differently than what is most common, then take the closest one.

4)   If you have a unique name, then try breaking it down. For example, the name “Jaelynne” can be broken down into Jae and Lynne or Lynn.

Once you have your definition, write it down and put it where you can see it. It may serve as a reminder in those times when you need it most.

Mornings Are Second Chances

So you messed up right? There you are laying next to someone you just had sex with. Thoughts are flowing, maybe tears too. You are not sure what to do. Who are you going to tell? Who will be disappointed? You are not sure he will call you or if he will tell his friends. Maybe he loves you, maybe he doesn’t. Maybe you care, maybe you don’t.

Here’s the thing. Mornings are a second chance. They are a time when the sun peaks up over the earth letting you know a new day is here. Regardless of how bad last night was, that day is gone and will never be again. So take advantage of each breath, each second, each morning. Because even when the sun sets on one life, a new one begins.

Just because it happened once, doesn’t mean it has to happen again. Come before Your God. He has never left you and will love you always. What are you waiting for?

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.”

10 Quick Questions to Separate Mr. Right vs. Mr. Right Now

So you think you found Mr. Right? Well, here are a few quick questions to ask yourself when exploring your options. Almost all these questions have come through personal dating experience, so I think I have a pretty good perspective on these things. Really take time to think about them. Looks can only go so far.

1) How does he treat the women in his life (including his sister!!)?

You may have heard this before but it is so true. This is a great glimpse into the future of how he is going to treat you. So take notes! If you like what you see, that’s great. If you don’t, I would seriously think about moving on because if you are not careful one day that may be your child he’s treating like that.

 

2) Does he keep his hands to himself? Have you seen him chase girls down in the hallway? Have you witnessed him smack yours or another girl’s butt/other body part? (Sorry…got carried away with the questions).

This is a sure sign that he doesn’t respect women or their boundaries. If he does it to you, I’m pretty sure he does it to other girls while you are not around.

 

3) Does he pay attention to you when you are talking? Does he look around? Can he remember anything you said?

When a guy is into you, he will pay attention to what you have to say and even better contribute to the conversation. If he’s too busy looking behind you at Little Miss Short Skirt, then that’s a definite red flag.

 

4) What type of language does he use around you?

Call me old-fashion but a man should never curse or say inappropriate things around a lady. Watching what he says shows that someone raised him right and there is a gentleman inside.

 

5) Does he have a plan for his future?

Being cute doesn’t pay the bills (unless you are a model); so if you want a future with him make sure he will be able to provide for you and your future family’s needs. If he keeps asking you for money or expecting you to pay for things now while you are dating, you can be sure that this will carry on into marriage. Besides someone who has motivation and goals is definitely attractive. Chilling on the block is cute at 16 but it gets weird at 35.

 

6) Does he leave you guessing? Does he like to play games (I’m not talking about XBox)?

I hear a lot of girls and women saying, “He doesn’t know what he wants.” I assure you, he does. When a boy likes you, he will say it. If he wants to be your boyfriend or fiancé, nothing is going to stop him from making that happen. So if he is playing games with you, he doesn’t respect you or your feelings and he may never will. Keep it moving!

 

7) Does he have a lot of girls surrounding him?

Usually this is a sign that he is stringing a few girls around just to stroke his ego. Proceed with caution or not at all!

 

8) Is he involved in drugs and alcohol?

As much as some people thinks it’s cute (Oh, he’s so gansta!), it won’t be cute when you got cuffs on because you were chilling in his car or home and the police come running through. Save yourself not only heartache but your future as well.

 

9) How is his spiritual walk?

Now I didn’t ask, “Does he go to church?” A lot of people go to church but their spiritual walk with God is nonexistent. You want someone on your level or higher. If there is an emergency or crisis, believe me you are going to want someone who knows how to pray.

 

10) Do you see a future with him?

If you don’t, you are just wasting your time and energy on someone who won’t be significant in a couple of months or years. Invest your time in someone who will walk through the different stages of life with you, hand in hand. It’s like the difference between an acquaintance and your best friend. Besides you don’t want to waste really great gift ideas and dates on someone who won’t matter in a few months. Right?

Trash, ugly, attitude, slut, mean, nasty, (enter name here), these were all names I have been called growing up. Whether it was walking down the hallway, after breaking up with a boyfriend, or walking into the cafeteria, there was no hiding from how people felt about me. I got so used to being called these things that I would start to take on that character. I wore it almost as a badge of honor. However, when I gave my life to Christ I had to change and part of changing was finding out who I really was.

Here are 3 ways that helped me along with this process:

1) Read the bible. Wait! Before you click off, I know the bible may seem overwhelming or even confusing but there are study guides, study application bibles, and other online sources that can help you understand God’s 66 book love letter to you. Once you start reading, I’m telling you some of the stuff in there that is better than “reality” TV.

2) Be with like-minded people. It’s important to surround yourself with people who are going to encourage you, pray for you, and challenge you. It’s difficult to grow in God when you are surrounded with people who will make fun of you or not allow you to speak openly about Jesus. There is an old Spanish saying that goes, “Dime con quien andas y te dire quien eres.” Its basically saying, “Tell me who hang out with and I’ll tell you who you are.” Take a look around you.

3) Research. Whenever I’m going through something in my life that God needs to change or seems to be the theme, I research it. I usually do this by reading a book covering that topic. For instance, when I was in the waiting period for Mr. Right I read books written by Joshua Harris called, “I Kissed Dating Goodbye” and “Boy Meets Girl”. Find books that are biblically sound or in other words bible-based inspirational books.

 

Scripture:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5, NIV)

Meaning:

Before anybody had anything to say about you. God knew exactly who you were meant to be.

Scripture:

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalms 139:14, NIV)

Meaning:

Who are we to say what is ugly?  This includes calling ourselves ugly. God made you exactly how you were supposed to look. Knowing this will give you strength because no one is above our God.

Scripture:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV)

Meaning:

This is good news. It means you can have a fresh start. Change is good and it will allow you to take on that Godly character we are all striving to represent.

How it started vs. How it’s going..if you asked How it started vs. How it’s going..if you asked the girl in the first pic that she would be the girl in the second pic, I never would’ve believed you. To be honest, there’s been a lot of tears, cries out to God, joy, and growth.

I love baptisms. I love hearing God’s testimony. I love hearing what God continues to do. The night I got baptized, a family member confronted me in the driveway of my house and started yelling at me, “Who do you think you are? What makes you think you can get baptized? You are a fornicator!” And I was. I was sleeping with my boyfriend at the time and I hadn’t fully grasped my salvation and the choice to walk my Christian life out according to His Word. However, I didn’t die that day. Well physically anyway and from that point on my life started to drastically change. He met me where I was but He did take my hand and said walk with me. Walk away from that life. Walk away from that identity. Walk away from that pain. And walk I did and walk I still do.

If you haven’t already, if you’re on the fence, go get baptized. He calls us to it.

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (Rom. 6:4)

God confirms what has been spoken. Doubt hits us, God confirms what has been spoken. Doubt hits us, sometimes we want to run, sometimes we are scared, but God is so gracious, He will send Godly people, dreams, sermons, and scripture to confirm.

It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. 
(Isa. 55:11)

He is still the God Who speaks. If He’s silent, what’s the last thing He said to you? So many times I’ve tried to run from my calling, so many times I went to God with my disqualifications, so many times I was discouraged to the point of tears, so many times and still so many times..what about you?

God thank you for reminding us. We fight. We forget. You stay. You remind.

Throwbackkk Thursday..I found this in my Study Bib Throwbackkk Thursday..I found this in my Study Bible..I look at the names and I think about everyone I’ve done ministry with..the beautiful people I’ve laughed, cried, helped minister with, and made memories!

The different names the Youth Ministry went through..the different teens I’ve encountered, some of who are married and have kids 🙈🙊

Positive: I’ve seen God work through the lives of those who were “troubled” teens.

Negative: I’ve seen the enemy work through the lives of the “perfect” Christian teen.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. (2 Timothy 4:7)

The moral of the story is, it doesn’t matter how you start but how you finish. Many have fallen away and many have grown greatly in the Lord. I know I want to finish well and I pray the Lord will never leave me to my own desires, what hell that would be. He has been too good to leave for anything the world tries to give. It will NEVER satisfy like HE can and does.

If the Gospel is offensive, it’s to remove that which is not of Him. I don’t want to be complacent Lord. I don’t want to lack what You can give. I want to be better. 

I want to spend my life pointing to You because You give what people can’t, You give what money can’t, You are what people are looking for and will not find anywhere else. Not in the bedroom. Not in a job. Not in a human. Not in a post. Not in their crush. Not anywhere but at Your feet, oh Lord!

Where we are now and where we started (I flipped i Where we are now and where we started (I flipped it 🤣) In my dating history, I did many things wrong, but God..I should be dead somewhere with all my reckless behavior, but God..I thought no one would want me being the mess I was, but God..when you put your life in the hands of God and choose His ways instead of yours, His plan is always better.

This is why I stay preaching.

This is why I advocate for purity.

Purity still matters.

It’s hard to know if the person is a healthy match for you when you are tied to them in a sexual way. It binds you to them. It’s the reason why she won’t leave that person or he won’t leave that person. The bondage is strong.

But God.

Through Christ, Who strengthens you, “I  can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philip. 4:13) 

You can choose better. Do better. Leave for the better. Better is always CHRIST and what HE has for you.

United States of Anxiety..I read this somewhere..I United States of Anxiety..I read this somewhere..I think it was a title of a book and I thought to myself how anxiety infects the mind. Panic attacks, depression, worry, anxiety, it all attacks the spirit, mind, and heart of a person. How can we fight back?

What does the Word of God say?

There are times when we are called to enter into battle with those things of the world that seek to steal, kill, and destroy but what happens when it starts to do it to ourselves?

Pause. Take a break. Rest warrior of God.

One way we can combat anxiety and anxious thoughts is to DWELL in the Word of God. Focus on this scripture today and press into the work of the Cross. 

Rest in His promises. There are many.

We can’t battle if we don’t have strength. We find strength in Him. Spend time with your King today and rest in His loving arms.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matt. 11:28-29)

There’s been a lot of loss this year but I’ll There’s been a lot of loss this year but I’ll tell you what I’ve gained. Talking to Youth about Jesus Christ has been my passion and I’ve devoted the last 14 years of my life to it. This year I became the Youth Director at my home church of 15 years.

Be the person you needed when you were young.

I needed someone to believe in me. I needed someone to tell me about Jesus Christ. I needed someone to tell me I had options. Real ones. Like choosing life. I needed someone to look past the attitude and help me. I needed someone to listen. I needed someone to give me the space to talk in a safe and very real way. 

Can you be that for a teen in your life? Can we preach Jesus Christ like their life depends on it? Cuz it does and their eternity as well.

Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness. Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.
(Psalm 145:3-4)

We have a Mighty God Who is still on the throne. I don’t apologize for my faith. I don’t apologize for my shout. I don’t apologize for my worship to the Lord because I still remember where He saved me from. I still remember when I was at my lowest, He bent low to whisper the words that gave me breath, “I want you.” 

I’m the most unlikely person to be “qualified” to do His work but when my Savior calls as difficult at times and as scary at times and as unknown at times, my answer is “Yes, Lord.” 

Yes, Lord.

How merciful You are.

How can I not give to others what You have given me?

There’s a lot happening in the news and with my online ministry where I talk a lot about sexual purity, the questions often asked are, “Does God care about purity anymore?” “Isn’t this old-fashioned thinking?” “What does it matter?” Well let’s take a look at recent news with a famous Pastor..do you think it matters? To his wife? To his kids? To those witnesses? To the church?

Sin reverberates. 

Purity still matters.

It doesn’t stop when you’re married.

It’s not old-fashioned but God-fashioned.

Does it matter? Absolutely.

Stay in the Word of God. We are a forgetful people and we must be strengthened and reminded DAILY. 

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? (Jer. 17:9)

With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. (Psalm 119:10-11)
